SOUTH GOA FAMILY COMMUNITY
South Goa is a beautiful place to raise children. It is a village environment and we are surrounded by incredible nature, from beaches to jungle. This area has attracted more and more families over the years, from all over the world, and a diverse and vibrant community continues to grow. Goa offers a laid-back outdoor lifestyle, perfect for families.
We have a River House Academy Welcome Pack produced by our PTA for all new families. It is full all sorts of useful information about our local area to help you settle in, from fun things to do, to how to go about setting up an internet connection. It is all there!
WHERE TO LIVE & HOW TO FIND ACCOMMODATION
We understand how important it is for you to find the right home for your family – and you will find some beautiful villages close to our school. If possible, it’s a good idea to book into a place temporarily to start with, and then have a good look around when you arrive to see which area suits you best.
Our school parents are dotted all over the surrounding villages – Agonda, Palolem, Colomb, Patnem, Rajbag, Talpona and Galgibag. Each place has a very different scene, ranging from the quiet and peaceful – i.e. Rajbag, Talpona, Colomb and Galgibag -to the ‘more happening’ spots such as Palolem, Patnem and Agonda, which get much busier during the tourist season.
It really all depends on what you’re looking for in your new home. The quieter villages have almost deserted beaches, few amenities and more of a local village feel. The busier places have plenty of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, beach shacks, live music in the evenings, etc. and more of a community family vibe going on.
A two or three-bedroom place can cost anything between Rs 15,000 – Rs 50,000 per month, with minimal expenses for water and electricity bills on top. Properties vary from freestanding Goan houses to apartments above a local family to serviced apartments.
We can’t promise to find your home for you, however we will be happy to help you out with a few pointers once you get here – and in the meantime, we recommend signing up to the South Goa Community Forum on Facebook. Its the go-to place for spotting adverts for homes to rent or to place your own specific advert for the kind of house you’re looking for.
