Pre-School
4-5 YEARS OLD
In the Pre-School the emphasis is on learning through play. We aim to develop a love of learning in children that will enable them to enjoy school and build an understanding of school as a safe place where mistakes can be made and successes celebrated. This will help them form strong relationships with their peers and teachers. We also lay the foundations to prepare them for entry into our primary school in a year’s time.
The Pre-School class is housed in a separate building within our main school grounds and the children join the other classes for lunch and playtimes. We take full advantage of our beautiful gardens and most activities take place outside. As throughout the school, there is an emphasis on experiential learning, so the pre-school children will often go on excursions to explore the local environment and culture.
- Personal, Social and Emotional
- Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Physical Development
- Understanding the World
These Learning Intentions are based on the UK Early Years framework and ensure that we consider all of these intentions when planning for our youngest learners. All of these intentions can be met by incorporating guided elements to the play and exploration of our pre-schoolers.
- Who We Are
- Where We Are In Place And Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How The World Works
- How We Organise Ourselves
- Sharing The Planet
As part of these themes, children will study units tailored to the specific needs of any given cohort and the context through which these concepts are investigated will depend on the interests of the children. This way, children become active collaborators in their learning journeys. They explore these ideas through hands-on activities, play, and self-directed exploration.
